About

Why did I start the Drama Den?

Well, that is easy to answer. Drama is such an important part of everyday life and in the development of children, yet we are seeing it squeezed more and more out of the curriculum. Drama isn’t only fun, it builds confidence, communication skills, imagination and so much more.

I am fortune to live in a town that has an abundance of wonderful youth theatre groups. LAMDA classes complement these groups perfectly. My lessons allow the children to focus on their technique and skills on an 1 to 1 basis. Many times children will ask me to spend some of their lesson time helping them with their next audition.

Not every child dreams of being on the stage. Plenty of my pupils are working hard to pursue a career that involves debating or public speaking. This can be very daunting. Through Public Speaking and Verse and Prose exams, pupils learn new techniques such as eye contact, breath control and pace. With these skills speaking and presenting in public will never be an issue.  LAMDA accredited exams are highly prestigious and can count towards the pupils UCAS points system when applying to universities and colleges.

My background

I attended a full-time stage school from the age of 11 before completing a 3-year Dance and Drama course, which included the LAMDA Gold medal (Grade 8) in both Acting and Verse and Prose. I then performed professionally in various musicals, plays and cabaret shows .

After which I settled down in to the corporate world! Quite a change from being on stage, but there are actually a lot of similarities.  I have worked in various departments including training and corporate communications. For several years I have acted as a business mentor coaching public speaking and presentation skills. I am also a qualified as a Neuro Linguistic Programming practitioner.

Not wanting to give up my theatrical side, I have spent many years working with adults and children in Amateur Theatre across the Midlands as well as coaching children who perform in Dance and Drama festivals across the UK. Currently I am choreographing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester.

I very much look forward to meeting you and your children.
