WHAT IS LAMDA?

LAMDA is a Speech and Communications Board overseen by OFQUAL that offers exams resulting in qualifications in both Speech and Drama that are recognised around the world.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD STUDY?

The choices seem endless where LAMDA exams are involved. Students can try their hand at Public Speaking, Mime, Acting, Verse and Prose, Musical Theatre, Reading for Performance and many more communications based exams.

Most younger children will start with introductory Verse and Prose and Acting exams before branching out in to other areas of the syllabus.

Public Speaking is wonderful for older pupils wishing to improve their confidence when speaking in front of large groups or even in the classroom.

HOW DO LESSONS WORK?

Pupils will work 1 to 1 with their LAMDA tutor towards an exam subject of their choice.

Lessons are 30 minutes long. The lesson will start with a vocal warm up before concentrating on the exam pieces. Games, mimes and exercises will be introduced to broaden the pupils understanding of drama.

Joint lessons with children of similar age/ability last for 45 minutes.

Most lessons take place in Loughborough at our tutors homes.

WHEN ARE LESSONS AVAILABLE?

Lessons are available after school and over the weekend. Contact us to find our current availability.

HOW MANY EXAMS CAN MY CHILD AIM TO TAKE A YEAR?

Well, everybody is different and that means a different program is created for each child. On average, a solo candidate will look to take one or two exams a year (usually within two different subjects) if they attend a weekly lesson.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE EXAMS HELD?

Exams are taken at the public centre in Leicester. Your tutor will be in attendance to help you before you go in and to ensure you fully prepared.

DO YOU HELP WITH AUDITIONS?

Yes, our tutors can help with auditions to drama school or theatre auditions. This can include setting movement.

WHAT IS THE COST OF A LESSON?

  • 1 to 1 lesson for 30 minutes in the tutor’s home is £16.
  • Joint lesson for 45 minutes in the tutor’s home is £24.
  • Lessons available at the pupil’s home for an additional travel fee.

Lessons can be cancelled with 48 hours notice after which the full lesson fee will be due.
